Possessions (2025)
A flat lay look at some of my own everyday items.
We interact with objects every day that are integral to our living, working, and playing. Taking these objects and removing them from their normal spacial habitats recontextualizes them back to an place reminiscent of an e-commerce environment where many of these objects were first seen and purchased from.
Some of the items never had a life in an e-commerce environment. For example, my Grandfather’s Nikon FG. This camera was manufactured from 1982 to 1986 and never in its original life saw an e-commerce environment. It, like others, still takes on a quality of being perfect the way they are. The old items with a patina of use are reminiscent of items found in museum display cases showing their life while the newer, less used things take on a commercial level of perfection hinting at the life they will eventually have.
